Bayern Munich have continued their top form in the Bundesliga with the away victory at Frankfurt over the weekend. BAYERN CHIEF HOENESS: NO PLAYER IS WORTH €100 MILLION

Bayern Munich president UliHoeness opines that the inflated transfer market is dangerous for football.

The market has seen a drastic upturn of recent as rich clubs pay expensive release clauses to get top rated players.

Recently, state-backed Paris St Germain paid a world record fee of €222 million for Brazilian forward Neymar Jr. The deal doubled the previous record held by Paul Pogba for €100 million. Neymar’s move triggered Barca’ spending of €145 million in a deal to land Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund as replacement. Then more recently, Monaco reportedly agreed to a €180 million deal with PSG for French youngster KylianMbappe.

Hoeness is very displeased that clubs are paying this much for the players as he provides his own maximum valuations.

“In my opinion, there is no player in the world worth €100 million. I do not want to buy a player for €100 million even if I had the money. That would be too much of a waste of money,”Hoeness, who has served a prison term for tax evasion, said. Continue reading

MERTESACKER’S FITNESS IS CRUCIAL TO ARSENAL

Germany international Per Mertesacker played only one full match for Premier League side Arsenal and still ended the season lifting a trophy in the mould of the oldest of them you had find in England – the FA Cup.

In a season the Gunners truly had a lot going for them as early as the 11th match day fixture where they thumped three unreplied goals into Thibaut Courtois’ net as they handed Antonio Conte one of his heaviest defeat as a coach.

Ironically, that prompted the Italian to reshap the Blues into a 3-5-2 formation that served him throughout his time in charge of Juventus and to a lesser extent the Azzuri national side of the wine-loving nation of Italy.

That tweak will later propel Chelsea to eleven straightpremier league wins and in the process ensure they opened up a gap that the rest of the league struggled to close down till the final match day with Totttenham Hotspur coming closest but still ending up 7 points below the top spot.

Arsenal though ended up so close to their yearly-chased darling – the fourth spot – as Jurgen Klopp’s Red Army made sure to condemn them to fifth place by defeating Middlesborough and ensuring the North Londoners won’t be in the Champions League for the first time in 21 years. Continue reading

BAYERN PLAY DRAW AT HOME AGAINST MAINZ

Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich slipped as they played a 2-2 draw against Mainz at home.

They were lucky to come back from behind to get the result against their lowly opponents. They are still the likely winners of the league but the gap is now nine points ahead of RB Leipzig’s clash with Schalke.

BojanKrkic, who is on loan from the Premier League, opened scoring as early as the second minute. Daniel Brosinski scored a penalty before halftime but goals from ArjenRobeen and ThiagoAlcantararestored parity, leaving both sides to share the spoils.

The result follows after their loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter final. Injuries stopped the team from presenting a full squad, then errors and dismissals forced their defeat to Madrid. They remain in pole position to retain the Bundesliga though.

In other games, Marco Reus inspired a 3-2 victory for Dortmund over the rivals Monchengladbach. Replay shows Reus was wrongly awarded the spot kick in the 10th minute which he converted. The hosts equalized through Lars Stindl. They went ahead courtesy of Marcel Schmelzer’s own goal but striker Pierre-EmerickAubameyang came on to equalize before Raphael Guerreirosnatched victory for the visitors. The result lifts Thomas Tuchel’s team to third place. Continue reading

ARSENAL COULD LOSE OZIL TO BAYERN

Premier League heavyweights Arsenal might lose one of their star players Mesut Ozil to German giants Bayern Munich, according to reports.

The Gunners have not been able to convince the German to renew his contract with the club with 18 months left. They could as well lose him to Bayern as Ozil remains far from agreeing to a new deal with the North London side.

Ozil has given the excuse of waiting for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to agree to an extension with the club before he decides his future. With a string of failure to lift the Premier League, there are speculations that Wenger might resign his role at the club at the end of the season. The manager would decide on his future at the end of the season. With the campaign not exactly going smoothly, Wenger could leave for a change so Ozil is waiting until then to decide. Robben, Ribery, and Martinez were all training alone in the performance centre, with the Dutchman and Frenchman working on specific programmes as a result of slight muscle injuries, while the former Athletic Bilbao man was concentrating on recovery training.

The 32-year-old Dutch man, Robben has been sidelined by a series of injuries in the first half of this season, and he has only made just nine Bundesliga appearances in 2016-17. Neuer help Bayern avoid defeat

Bayern Munich should be grateful to their goalkeeper Manuel Neuer for helping them win a difficult game against Ingolstadt.

Indeed the German team was far from being at their best and was second best for most of the game. Bayern Munich was missing several players, and this showed on their performance against Ingolstadt.

The match started poorly for the German champion as they fail behind just after 8 minutes. This was a shocked for the Bayern Munich team that was expecting an easier game. However, they managed to come back into the game through Lewandowski just after 4 minutes.

Many people were hoping that the equalizing goal will motivate the Bayern Munich team, but nothing happened. Ingolstadt was keen to get a result in the derby match and played well defensively. Their defense was organized well and denied Bayern Munich time and space on the ball.

Ingolstadt was not just happy to sit back however and created chances on their own especially on counter-attacks. With Bayern Munich pressing to take the lead, they left plenty of spaces at the back and many times they were helped by Manuel Neuer who prevented them from conceding.

Bayern fans are very excited at the prospects of new signing ahead of the coming season, where they hope to retain the Bundesliga and make an impact in Europe.

Bayern beat a host of other clubs to sign Renato Sanches from Benfica.

Bayern snapped up the player last month while other clubs were still weighing their bid for the player. The Guardian reported that the Red Devils were also interested in the player before the German champions completed the deal in one swoop. The Portuguese champions had placed a release clause of €35 million which Bayern met. However, the stunning thing is that the player is just 18 years old.

The Bavarians definitely saw something in the very young player to have signed him at such a price. Bleacher Report looked at the deal and tried to analyse why Bayern would have signed the youngster, especially when there were a lot of alternatives in the team already. During his time at Bayern Munich, Guardiola has won the Bundesliga 4 times and won the Cup twice. His latest trophy came on Saturday when they beat Borussia Dortmund on penalty shootout. The only negative point on his Bayern Munich’s career is the fact that he could not win the Champions League with them.
